How many Asanas are there in Yoga?

Many people quizz if there is any finite and specific number of Asanas in Yoga. Yes there is!! It is 8,400,000. This is no random number. Like everything about Yoga this too has scientific basis.
It stems from the fact that asanas draw heavily from nature, animals, and the process of evolution of life.
It is said that from the point of the first minutest form, life goes through 8,400,000 mutations to reach the state of evolution of a human being. Hence, the asanas imitate these various stages. Therefore you find, Tada asana ( Palm tree pose), Ushtra asana ( Camel pose), Shalabh asana ( Locust pose), Padma asana ( Lotus pose) and so on and so forth.
But, for any daily practice for health or for transformation and transcendence, knowledge and practice of about 50 to 80 asanas practice over  a period of time with changes in the asanas to compliment changes in your body, mind, emotions and spiritual development is good enough.
