Everything in this world is a play of the three gunas. We are also ruled by the three gunas, sattwa, rajas and tamas.
Our mind, body and every state of being is a play of these three Gunas. While most of us are a mix of the three gunas, one of the three however dominates our personality.
When sattwa guna dominates then the mind is calm and concentrated. Nothing easily deflects the mind. It is a state desired for mediation and advancement in spiritual practice.
When rajas dominates, then the mind is distracted and energy is dissipated. The person is always in dynamic mode. If this state is tempered with jaap and Om chanting then this dynamic energy becomes concentrated and energy is not wasted through a distracted mind.
When tamas guna dominates the person is prone to laziness, apathy and suffers from lack of energy. Such a person must do dynamic Suryanamaskar, Kapalbhati and Bhastrika pranayama, along with other asanas and pranayama practice.
